Having Fun With The Kids

I took off work yesterday because my kids had off from school. Because of our Mt. Dora trip from Sunday, we really had nothing planned. While Sylvia and Ally were at Michael’s getting kits to carve out pumpkins I had an idea. The latest version of iMovie has a feature where you can create your own movie trailer. I showed it to my son and asked if he wanted to do it with a ‘Scream’ theme (No my kids have not seen these movies). When I showed him what we could do he was in. When Ally came home I told her and she was in (only with the promise of making another one next month for Christmas).

So with a ‘Scream’ outfit, some fake blood and my Nikon D90 we got to work. I had to work extremely fast because they were anxious to see the results and asking them to re-shoot some had them groaning at times. So this isn’t going to win any awards but we really had a lot of fun. Check it out:

After that, the kids ate dinner and then they carved their pumpkins. Here’s Ally’s:

And here is Michael’s:

So I would say taking off work yesterday to spend with my wife kids was full of WIN.

I Am Not Old, But Getting Older

I had rented ‘Guitar Hero 3′ from Blockbuster a few months ago. In the game, as you do career mode there are “boss battles.” One of them is against former Guns N Rose guitarist Slash.

A few weeks after my son Michael got his fill of the game, we were in the car listening to Chris Daughtry’s CD. Slash played on the ‘What I Want’ track. I said, “Mike, that’s Slash playing the guitar on this song.”

My son looks at me and says, “Slash is real?”

The interesting thing is, as my son started to play guitar he really started to listen to Slash’s playing and became a fan. A poster of Slash now adorns my son’s wall.
